Hi,

I just encountered a pretty strange thing:

$ mp3cddb *.mp3
searching for discid: 630a3309, total tracks: 9, total time: 2611 ...
trying freedb.freedb.org:8880...
match: rock 620a3609 Soilwork / The Chainheart Machine
saving information to cddbinfo.txt...
$

Searching with the web interface on freedb.org, I get nothing for
that CD however. Isn't that... particular?

Cheers,
Colin

As far as I know isn't the web interface capable of accessing the "true"
database. I don't now how many hours/days/month the web interface is
behind the real database, but I guess it must be "some" ;)

It is known, that the web-search interface is buggy. But given the
choice to have no web-based search or this one, we opted to use this
one till omeone comes up with a better solution.

It's updated once a day.

Ah, that would explain why http://jvhemert.cjb.net/disc-cover/
returns 3 hits for "Soilwork", but displays only 2...

No, that's probably a bug of their frontend for our web-based search.
Search in our web-based search and you get exactly the 2 hits that
disc-cover shows - so it seems they have a bug counting the hits.

Ah, indeed, it is quite some then. In the order of weeks I'd
say. Thanks for the clarification.

No, take a look at the advanced search page:
database from November 25 2002 02:00:08 AM GMT

The reason is the buggyness of the search, not the update frequency.

Something was indeed wrong with the search - I re-generated the index
from scratch and now it finds a lot more hits - e.g. two for the album
you mentioned. Sorry for the problems.

Cool, thanks very much for your efforts. Do you still think there is
a search problem? I.e., should I report more such discrepancies if I
encounter them, or should I fully blame it on that known, unfixed
bug?

I cannot do more than what I have done now, i.e. re-generate the
index. If you, however, notice, that entries you found on the search a
while ago start disappearing, then it might be a good idea to let me
know.
